Posted by: Mark Unsworth from Telford, Shropshire

Comments: I was born in Platt Bridge went to Holy Family school untill I was 6 moved to Springfield and went to Scared Heart School before moving to Marus Bridge and going to St Aidans, I went to John Fisher school in Beech Hill before my mother uprooted us to live in Wolverhampton for about 12 months before settling in Telford. I left Wigan on the 28th December 1976, I dreaded moving to a place where the locals all talked like Pigeons. Shropshire is better but I still return to Wigan about once or twice a year, but as some older members of my relations are dyeing off, there is becoming less reason to return. I know work as a breakdown controller for a truck and trailer rental company

I miss: Seems like I am no different to most Wiganers in exile. Theres nowt like a proper meat and potato pie and barm cakes. They just dont know how to make em any were else. Well done to the Latics for getting into Division 1, I always try to watch them when they play in the West Midlands or around, I am also very proud of my Wigan roots and still have a Wigan accent, except people in Wigan now reckon I talk posh. Your only really and truly a Wiganer once you have left the town because its only then that you truly understand what it means to be a Wiganer.
