Comments: Always lived in Wigan area. Now Standish. Retired teacher living with husband Stewart Thompson Went to Wigan Girls High School in the 60s

I miss: Still in there. Eating pies and goid fish and chips

Comments: I use to lived in Logwood Ave and then Scot Lane Newtown. Moved down south in 1964 but would love to hear from anyone who can remember me.

I miss: Pea mixtures....(can only get pea fritters here)..Pooles meat and potato pies...and yummy potato cakes, and of course all the lovely people I knew in those great days.

Comments: HAVE NOT MOVED? STILL LIVE IN WIGAN A old pal of mine by the name of Alan Harrison emigrated to Australia around 45 years ago? He was formally married to an Alice Cartwright from Norley Hall. They had a couple of kids but spilt up and Alice emigrated to join her brother in Aus? Alan followed her couple of years later. Attended ince central junior school before going to rose bridge secondary left in 1953. became an apprentice engineer at horwich loco and got married in 1961 at standish st wilfreds.moved to derby as a railway engineer in 1960.have 3 sons now all grown up and flown the roost.presently 74

I miss: still have an elder sister at hindley and a younger brother at ashton. was present at the record crowd at central park when wigan played st helens on good friday.used to watch wigan from the 3d hen pen as a youngster 1947-1950.walkers mild no longer available and the pies not the same.folks are still a delight and I quickly return to my native accent whenever I visit. proud to be an INCER.

Comments: I used to live in haigh ,nr aspull and am the ex lanlord of the balcarres arms, recently moved to the isle of lewis with family.

I miss: wigan rugby, st pats arlfc,uncle joes mint balls and a good pub!!!

Comments: Born and brought up in scholes,went to whelley school and spent many years as a d j in and around the wigan area inc: Tiffanys , Mr Ms ( casino ) and Leos. Left wigan in 1976 to work at Rockafellas in Guernsey then returned to live in the midlands to work with local and national groups. I have for the last 20+ years worked in the transport industry with my present position as logistics operations manager for a Cardiff based company.

I miss: Simply everything especially the girls, wigan lasses are the best on earth without a doubt but i do miss a proper pie and the labour club culture.

Comments: born in Standish Lower Ground as susan francis married harry robinson in 1970 lived in baytree road beech hill but moved to northampton in 1972 with harry's job(tsb)then cambridge in 1980 then sheffield in1982 been here ever since but still a lancastrian at heart.harry would not have left wigan if WAFC had been in the F/League in 1972.my passion has always been Rugby League Harry sadly died in 2003 whilst we were in Amsterdam

Comments: I lived in Back Lane, Appley Bridge till 1971.My mother died in1996 and since then ive lost touch.

I miss: Miss watchin Wigan Warriors, the countryside and proper chips, barmcakes and Pooles pies.

Comments: Maiden name Smalley, Went to Notre Dame High School, Wigan from 1965 to 1970. Lived in Ashton in Makerfield.

I miss: Would like to contact old school friends from Notre Dame if anyone out there remember me, please.

Comments: I lived on Brock Mill Lane, off Wigan Lane nr the Cherry Gardens. Went to Wigan Girls High School both in Standishgate then the Whitley facility. My Mum taught in various schools all over Wigan, finishing at Scot Lane. She was Joan Molyneaux Howes.

I miss: I miss my family, pies and chips and just walking the streets where I grew up.

Comments: I lived in Standish and went to Wigan Girls High School. In my teens we frequented the Commercial Inn, Casino, Palais, Blutos, Room at the Top,Sloopys etc. I am still in touch with some schoolfriends and we meet up a few times a year, would be lovely to hear from anyone that remembers me!!

I miss: I miss my friends, the friendly warm people, the Wigan accent, Pooles Pies, The Commercial's Double Diamond and so much more, Happy Days!

Comments: Primsrose Grove, Montrose Ave. Worsley Hall Estate, Ridyard St.Pemberton, Wallgate. Went to Scot Lane Junior then St Marks Miss Snelson was headmistress, then on to Wigan Tec married and moved 1961, Worked in finance mostly until 2003 I now visit clients in their own homes to enable them to be independent as long as possible.

I miss: The people and accent also the pies

Comments: I lived in Standish from 1953 when born until 1975 and spent my youth at Comet Youth Club, The Casino and The Palais, also many hours in The Commercial pub . The Room at the Top where we gathered on sunday afternoons to hear great music, Sloopys club where we went when the pubs closed again to listen to good music. I went to Wigan Girls High School from 1964 - 1969. I am still in touch with a few of my schoolfriends and we meet up regularly.

I miss: Double Diamond in The Comemrcial, Pooles Pie Shop on Wallgate and the lovely shop with individual booths where you could sit and savour their pies also I once had a birthdsy party upstairs in the cafe in Mesnes Park.

Comments: Left Wigan in 1974 when I got married. Moved to Gloucester. Had 3 children. Divorced 1994. Moved to West Wales in 2007

Comments: Used to live in dene grove plank lane. Moved to Wales in 82. Now teaching English but would love to get in touch with anyone from plank lane who used to know me.

I miss: Bees knees, Garrick night club, charmless book shop, steak and kidney puddings, Lancashire hot pot

Comments: Born in Billinge hospital 1962, lived in Holt St Higher Ince and went to Ince Central. Got posh and moved to Wigan Road Standish in 1970! Lol!Went ti Mabs Cross and Gidlow for a bit. "Emigrated" to Wales in 1972, married in 1988 to Neil and have 2 gorgeous boys "Loz" and "Ellz".

I miss: Still go back- got family and friends there. Miss the friendly Wigan chat. Miss the humour!! They don`t laugh a lot, the Welsh! Lol! Would move back tomorrow if we could.

Comments: Heyup folks. I'm not an expat but I saw the name of an owd mate of mine on here and couldn't register to leave a message on the message board so I'm trying this way. Jimmy Roberts?? now in Memphis (I think) Did you work for Duggies Jimmy? With little Cliff and Dennis? Worked on British Gas job in Stockport? Does anone know Jimmy? Am i on the right track?

Comments: I used to live in Whelley till 1978 then moved to Bournemouth originally for 3 months I have now lived here 34 years. Wigan will always be home.

I miss: The directness of the people. Wiganers have an honesty you dont find in many places.I still return on regular basis just to keep that sense of reality in myself.

Comments: Used to live in Douglas St., Newtown, and then movved into new house in Thorburn Road, Norley Hall before emigrating to the other side of the Pennines in 1958. Used to be a Professional Photographer with my own studio before I had to retire due to poor health.

I miss: Still come back occasionally for for a real meat and potato pie followed by an Uncle Joe's mintball.

Comments: used to live in Billinge Road near delph.Moved to Leyland in 1976.Was electrician at Roburite until 1994.Went to Highfield school then Wigan Grammar.

I miss: Hare and Hounds pub Billinge Road,and Railway pub Highfield when Dick Bolton was waiting on,about 1962.Sportsmans Club etc.

Comments: i lived in gloucester crescent then moved to argyle st i also went to argyle school 1960 /64 i moved to westhoughton when i married in 1972 i worked in horwich 31 years making toilet roll's and it's were i met my husband

Comments: Born in Douglas Street, Newtown. Lived in Thorburn Road, Norley Hall. Went to Pemberton Primary, Robert Lewis schools and 1 term at Thomas Linacre before moving to York in the late fifties. Loved rugby league since I saw Wigan play at Central Park. It cost me threepence (3d) in old money to get into the hen pen.

I miss: Pies definately, blak peas at the fair and Uncle Joe's mintballs.

Comments: Born Billinge Hospital 1957. Brought up in Kitt Green.Attended Abraham Guest School in Orrell from 68-73. Worked for one year at Gullick Dobson then attended Wigan Tech from 74-76. Left Wigan in 82 and have lived all over the world. Now happily settled in Surrey.Parents still live in Wigan and just visited them Aug.2011.The town has changed considerably, but I like that.Was very proud to show town centre and surrounding countryside to my two sons and their respective girlfriends (all southerners). Disappointed not to recognize any familiar faces.

I miss: My family, the accent (wonderful to be called "luv" again), friendly shop assistants, Woolworths (where my sister and I used to share a very frothy banana milkshake at the cafe counter), being able to strike up a conversation with anyone without looking like you've lost your marbles.

Comments: i am now retired,made redundant from walmsleys pagefield works wigan in 1971 employed as joiner.i wonder if anyone remembers, tommy beetham who i believe was an ex wigan prop. he was the plumber at walmsleys.a giant of a guy

Comments: 17 queens st wallgate wigan.moved to newburgh,then burscough then ipswich suffolk.caravan technician.moved to suffolk in 1965,after my mother died to live with my mothers sister.still a keen wigan rugby league fan.attended gidlow secondary school at beech hill 1960 to 1964.would be pleased to hear from any former pupils l was in class b and in nelson house and jack sharrocks dinner monitor.

I miss: fish and chips, pigeion peas served in a cup at the old wigan fare when it was held on the market square.the wiganers for there friendlyness even to a complete stranger.central park on a saturdayafternoon standing in the hen pen or the spion cop stand.

Comments: formerley from ashcroft ave beech hill moved to ruskin ave worsley mesnes in the late fifties since moving to the iow in 1972 done a verity of jobs lifegaurd on the beach.deck chairs for the council. hotel work.bingo caller got married.had to get a proper job worked as drayman at ventnor brewery for 15 years untill it closed march 2009 i now work for a company called vikoma who deal with oil spills around the world

I miss: theres a couple of wigan people down here who i mate with we are known as iow pie eaters. we watch the super league every friday in our local pub were big warriors fans and try to come up for a couple of games a season hopfully we will be at wembley in august

Comments: Couldn't stand Wigan any more. Hopeless arrogance and conceit amongst its people. It is not the best town in the world. It's not even the best place to live in the borough. Nuclear attack would be too kind to it.

I miss: Nothing. If I ever see the place again it'll be too soon.

Comments: Born in Aspull, went to Aspull Methodist school between 1952 & 1958 then Aspull County Secondary the first day it opened, Mr Firth was the Headmaster. Moved to Yorkshire with my job 28yrs ago. Come back for the occassional visit see friends and familly and the old place.

I miss: MY YOUTH, i'm 64 yrs old and some of the old characters I knew, sadly, some have gone now. Oh yes, the Minors when I was a kid Saturday mornings at the Ritz, and a ginger beer at Boltons chemist on Scholes when we walked home.

Comments: I used to live in Wigan. Now retired and playing golf and crown green golf, not time for anything else. I went to Sacred Heart School at Springfield.

I miss: Woolworths, Whit walks, wigan fair and black peas.

Comments: I was born in Standish nr Pepper Lane, I worked at Wigan Emp until 67/68, I remmember Bill Blackledge and his Band very well, Latics lad since 1953. Left wigan area in 1983 after some matramonial probs, I still have some old pals around, you are all welcome to contact me if you think you know me. I sometimes make trip back on mondays and can be found having lunch in `THE MOON UNDER THE WATER` See you there look forward to hearing from you.

I miss: Pooles Pies from the shop, Wigan and Billie Boston, My mum, Pals and Girlfriends i knew, friends gone and some old latics players, Steve Penk, Doug Couts, Angus McClain, that was by designe to make you think.

Comments: Used to live in Holme Terrace. Remember the Cottrialls (57) and the Wilkinons, I think their dad was a painter and decorator. Civil Servant for 20 years to 1992. Moved to Isle of Man around 1996. Had various business interests including a Post Office on Isle of Man.

I miss: Pooles pies. Cheap beer. Queen's Hall church and loads of other things.

Comments: I lived in Sarginson street worked in the pit. played rugby and did a spot of profeesional wrestling. Move to Devon ran holiday camp with my wife Margaret fro Beech hill. we the did 12 years in America come backm in 209 I am 84

Comments: Lived in Logwood Ave till 1956 then moved to Scot Lane Newtown till 1963. Then came to live down in Southampton.... settled here and married. Went to St Joseph's, St Cuthbert's and St Thomas More schools. Now retired. Yippee !!!!

I miss: Most of all I miss my family and friends but I also miss meat & potato pies, pea mixtures from the chippie especially upside down ones, Santus's invalid toffee, the Arcades and of course the market hall. Wonderful memories of Wigan will be with me always.

Comments: I was born in Poolstock and have remained a proud islander ever since. I run a small business consultancy which is a far cry from my days as an apprentice fitter at Mellings Iron Foundry and Walmsleys as a Marker Off. Moved from Wigan in 1994 to the North East and feel at times that I need to speak through an interpreter. Lovely people like Wiganners.

I miss: Miss a good pie as all we have are flaky pasties. Also no way can you get a steak pudding from the chippy. Miss watching Wigan Rugby and the Friday night pizzas and wine with friends. What I love is the respect people in the North East have for Wigan. So many places seem like Wigan and District. Must be the mining influence
