The Wigan Directory of 1881, Abram
Abram, a township about three-and-a-half miles S. by E. from Wigan, contains a scattered village, and a church dedicated to St. John the Evangelist. The church is about a mile from Platt bridge station, on the Manchester railway (via Tyldesley) and two-and-a-half miles from Golborne. A National School has been erected near the church for children of both sexes. The population in 1871 was 1065, and in 1881, 2638; and the area 1982 acres.
