Thank you Patricia:-) I will phone when visiting, my six year old grandson Alan will be with me, so another generation can see 68 Market Street.
It was wonderful to be able to tour. My sons Edmund and William love to tell the story of the cellar being the highlight of our tour. Not Stonehenge, the Tower of London, but the cellar of 68 Market Street.
Looking forward to our visit.
Thank you for being so kind.

First time on this site, nice to see J.Griffin still around Wigan, along time since we were order lads John,it's a few years since I was in Ince, but I often wonder how many lads are still living in Ince who went to St William's in the 40s and 50s.I'm now living in Andalucia, and no I don't miss the pies.

Ann Cronin, I used to work at Age Concern and remember you and your family coming around and taking some photographs. Age Concern is still there, but I left last year. I know they would welcome you to look around and would even ask the press to come and do an article. Just give them a ring on 01942 241972 and ask to speak with the Chief Officer.

Thank you for your dedication to the history of your home. I cam e across your site whilst searching for infomation on Col. Sir Stanley Bell.

I have an old motor car, a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud, owned by Sir Stanley. I am desperate for vintage photos of Sir Stanley and the car around the time he and Lady Bell owned Euxton Hall.

Before anyone asks, I'm in Yorkshire doing missionary work!. Whilst browsing the Wigan World site, under the heading memories of Woodcock Street I spotted a letter from David Devine of Wigan, I think we could be related, my mother was Annie McNamee and her mother was Catherine Devine whose father was James Devine. The family seemed to be mainly located in the Scholes area (Cambridge Street ?. It would be great to hear from David and to find we are related.

Hello Helen:

My goodness fruit boxes. I remember the navel oranges wrapped in purple tissues, and the smell of the fruit. When I last visited Wigan the tenants of 68 Market Street, at that time it was a Age Concern ,let me and the family in to take a tour. My best memory was the celler, sounds funny, but the smell took me back to very happy times. Use to visit the kittens, Nana was not too happy that I spend so much time there.

Thank you so much for the posting.
Regards,
Ann

Hell Mark:

I believe we are related. Just phoned my Mum, she remembers Tony, Tom and Jean. It certainly is a small world. I will be visiting Wigan this year, staying with friends in Ashton in Makerfield. Would be lovely to meet and have a pint.
Regards,
Ann

Ann Cronin we may be related.
My dad grew up in Market Street in the 1930 and was part of the fruit family.
He was Tony Conroy and his brothers were Tommy and John and his sister Jeanne.

You have a terrific site, I dont know of any other town that could equal yours.
The other day I was surfing tour site and came upon an article by singaporemick he had some various videos for viewing and I clicked onto one about Castlefield, as the video progressed I notice some sheep made from stone bits, after about half a minute I decided to backtrack a bit to see some of the Roman wall atc; and the sheep came up again, than the camera panned to the foot of the olumn and I couldn't believe my eyes, it said sheep by TED ROOCROFT, I believe that I have a cousin Edward Roocroft, it was startling.

I am trying to find family, my grandmother came from Ashton in Makerfield, Elizabeth Brogan born 1888 and at the 1901 census lived at 16 Lime Street Wigan, she married John Thorpe in 1907. I can remember meeting my Grandmothers sisters Norah and Mary Jane when I was very young and as you would guess I have a pair of the smallest cloggs which I did wear, my Grandmother said she could hear me coming. I wish I could have an insight what it was like to live there and what sort of lives they lived, this site will be able to give me that. Thank you!!!

There was a question posted regarding anyone who knew Edna and Joe Cronin. They were my mother and father in law. I married their son Alan in 1970 at St. Oswalds Knott-end-on-Sea. Edna continued to run the Wheatshief in Standish after Joes death. She married Jack Smallshaw, they ran a bed and breakfast in Knott-End_on-Sea for many years. Edna passed away in 1989.
