To Sally Dillon a yard in the past was when a house was built round a square.a courtyard. In later times terraced houses where built back of houses to back of houses with a small space between back of houses(for outside toilet etc)this was the yard.later terraced houses got longer yards instead of back gardens(simplified )

I LOVE Wigan world! My 96 year old Nana (Doris Heaton)and her family are all from Wigan (Pemberton; Goosegreen; Clapgate. Together her and I are trying to find pieces of Wigan and family history...her father was one of 12 boys, lived on 32 Campbell street...She tells MANY stories of her Wigan life...the wonderful neighbours, buildings/industries--horrific accidents and local folklore--A font of Wigan history. Being a Canadian girl I've only managed to visit Wigan twice...but plan on coming back many, many more times. We BOTH love the site...thank you for everything!!

Enjoy the wonderful photo's posted on the site. Was back in Wigan about 2 weeks ago; still like the place but please retain the old buildings. Pity I missed the snow though.
We are trying to locate an old friend; name Sylvia Peters (originally Marsh) and who now lives in Tintagel, Cornwall. She used to use Wigan world but we need her nw address.
