Looking for Wigan slang

My friend lives in Wigan and I wanted to learn more about the slang she uses. I was so glad to stumble upon a website that has such a rich and deep record of the town -- I love the photos!

Helen you can sign in has a guest without being a member of WW and may you do so for as long has you wish. I was curious to see if you was a member because over the last few days a relative of yours was trying to make contact with you and sometimes members leave contact details or can be reached through admin

Dek, I am not the best person to give you an answer, all seems a muddle to me all this change of boundaries. I read only this morning that a huge new housing estate was being proposed, to be built in the boundary of Wigan with Salford....I give up ! No doubt someone on WW will have an answer for you.

Reading local history

I wondered why Lowton is not included in Wigan Streets. I am in Wigan Met Borough, although my postcode is WA Warrington. Is that why?
Although Golbotne is WA Warrington, yet is included, Billinge is St.Helens, but is included, Upholland is West Lancashire and is also included.
Leigh is in Wigan Met Borough and has a WN Wigan postcode, yet is not included.
What about Atherton, Tyldesley etc, are they not Wigan?
What is the meaning of Wigan?

Family history searching for Evans family ,Greenbank, hindley
Comments
I am looking for photos(hopefully) of Greenbank where the Evans lived 1880/1890s and Kirkpatricks where Alfred was Cashier.
I have to say the Wigan speech/dialect has so much in common with the Black Country spoken around here.Sadly, its dying out as we all become more posh.

Apparently, according to history, the Sankey Canal was there long before the industrial town of St Helens existed and it didn't even go there when it did. It was extended to there by the St Helens extention when the town's industry grew.

Abram, The sea Lock is in the Warrington side of fiddlers, where the marina is, there is a pub there called the fiddlers ferry, At that pub is a sign board telling the tale of, how it got the name fiddlers ferry.
Its from a french bloke who's name was Viola', and through transation through the ages, the viola became fiddle and fiddle became Fiddlers ferry because, he ran a ferry from over the Mersey,

st helens canal is a name commonly, although erroneously, applied to the sankey canal.
this mistake came about after the sankey canal and the runcorn gap railway formed a joint company which was named "st helens canal and railway company" which was a "canal and railway company," - "in st helens"
if you took the time to walk along the canal route you would see the namesigns - Sankey Canal
and yes it has a sea-going lock but at least 2 miles beyond fiddlers ferry at spike island

The sankey canal is the St helens canal, both are unused now,
and there are boats on the St Helens canal as it has a sea going lock at Fiddlers ferry

The Sankey Canal (not st helens canal) was opened in 1757 and closed in 1963.
Fiddlers Ferry power station was opened in 1973,
10 years after the Sankey Canal was closed.

If you are as you say, an electrical engineer, ( can you offer any proof ?) I would have thought that, Throwing light would be second nature to you, to my knowledge, there has never been a Canal going to Rainhill but, there is a St Helen canal that runs down the Sankey Valley and was used to deliver coal to Fiddlers Ferry Power station,
