This site is brilliant, I can't stop looking at it, hoping that I'll see a name I recognise. The memories it has brought back to me are never ending, and I' looking through my old photos to see what i can contribute. Every town should have a site like this.

Great website you have there. It opens my eyes to the world of my Grandad. He emigrated to Western Australia with his two sisters in 1923. They soon move to South Australia and raised three sons and a daughter to produce quite a large close family. Unfortunately we have no direct links anymore to Wigan other than family stories but Wigan is still in our hearts.

My Grandfather came from Wigan. Emmigrated to the USA when only 16 years old. Came by himself leaving the family behind. He work hard and did very well for himself. He was always proud of his Wigan roots. I've had the pleasure of visiting Wigan and doing some family history research.

Brings back lots of memoriesHiKen,sorry but your name doesn't ring a bell either. The only person I knew in Peel St; was Fred Mason.I'm talking ab out the war years. When we were kids we all met at Bob Parry's house most nights and stayed until late. Do not know how his parents coped with us.I lived in Ashton St; with my brothere Alf and sisters Lily and Mildred. until about 1945-46.Went to Rose Bridge secondary school. We used to skate on the Clarry in our clogs.Nice talking to you.

I don't go on the guestbook to contact someone but A Parr I can't find you on the members list .I must know you and it's aggravating me because I know all the streets and all the people you are talking about but I cannot place you.I remember Frank and his brother his Mum and his Dad ,I remember playing hockey on the bikes on the land near the clarry and building the bomfire. I remember when my Dad was on the ice cream and he had a pony and cart and we lived in Peel St at the time and at dinner time he would come home put the bag of hay on the little pony and then come inside and have dinner and one day the pony ran off and we were running all around the streets trying to catch the little thing but that was the way things where. People used to borrow a cup of suger, tea, washing powder or 3 slices of bread "for my husband's jackbit for work tomorrow!.I remember when I cut my head open and the neighbours took me to the hospital and they did't have cars in those days

May not be the right place for this but Save Wiganers might like to know...probably know already...but anyone can nominate a building that they think should be considered for listing. It might come in useful one day to have the details of English Heritage. You can go to www.english-heritage.org.uk/nominate & complete an online form or phone for a copy at 0870 333 1181. Just a thought, might just halt some place being demolished without a good reason.

Absolutely fantastic site - I've spent more than an hour just browsing - I've found tons of really useful information for my research on Settle/Makinson family - particularly the cemetery details and spent a lot of time getting side tracked on really interesting history pages, well worth a visit and I'm sure I'll be back - Thank you.

I have been visiting the site for years now and think that it is wonderful. However I have a small suggestion in relation to the photos in the album. Instead of having the most popular 6 photos on the left of the screen, why not have 6 at random? My reason for saying this is that the current system is open to abuse. The top 6 remain the same as everyone who looks at the page will look at photos they are interested in plus the top 6 just because they are there. Also, anyone who has a mind to can get their picture into the top 6 just by clicking on it and the back button many times (I admit to doing it myself)
