I am trying to locate anyone that knows my partner, Graham Clayton, formerly of Wigan Rd, Hindley and Mornington Rd School. He was a regular football player in the pub league in Hindley I believe. Graham is 50 this year and I am trying to locate any of his old friends to help celebrate at his birthday party on the 30th of July this year in Pemberton. I dont have a massive amount of space, and although Graham is aware of the party, he doesn't know who is on the guest list, so I'd like some (pleasant) surprises from his past. If you are/were friends with Graham, please get in touch with me at mellands@aol.com. Apologies for posting this in the guest book but I have been trying for ages to get registered! If some nice member could post this in the forum, I'd be very grateful! Many thanks

I lived in Manchester Road in the 50s and could see the winding gear from my bedroom window. Could this be the mine you are looking for?

I found the site by accident and have enjoyed reading the comments, looking at photos and just touching base with the place that will always be 'home'! I have family still in Wigan and have told them about the site! I have just found out from my visit to the site that Mr Sammy Davenport died in 2008. He was my Headteacher at Argyle Street, Hindley and such a true representation of what education is about. A fantastic Headteacher, and role model. He would have been a great OFSTED Inspector!Because of him I became a teacher! I am now retired from teaching but I will never forget his influence on my life and his kindness!

Looking at comments on the Ben Jonson pub and it states that Ernest Orrell was the landlord up until 1971 but that is incorrect as I was born in there in 1965 when James and Dora McGrath, my grandparents had it.
