With regard to the posting regarding heather small,how can she be a famous wiganer,when we all know she is from manchester.:o)

This is one of the best sites i have seen on wigan i could sit here all day just lookin at pics, the only thing is you have missed out is the uncle joes song so hears a lil bit.......

The RSPCA have bought six tons of Uncle Joe's
To give to all the animules to keep 'em all aglow
Our budgie now is six foot tall, the cat is eight foot three
And all the poor brass monkeys are as happy as can be

i am a rugby player and i was shocked to see that King Bill Ashurst was not in your sport section in famous wiganers,he was a player for wigan rugby he also toured for great britain thee times and is in the hall of fame for penrith panthers in australia a high profile character if ever there was a famous wiganer thanx

i have been thrilled to find this site as my pos came from wigan 1800 am planning a trip to wigan in honor of my grandfather would ltove to intridue one of my writings to wigan.The CRy Of The MINER international award winning poem

it's at least 3 hours since I got here!Spent ages looking at old pics of Hindley and Wigan.One especially caught my eye.The one of the train going down hole in Abram with the driver still onboard.My Dad Joe Southworth lived very close to where that took place and I remember being fascinated even as a child when I was told about it.I never knew there was a plaque that marked the spot though!I shall have to go and have a hunt!

I left Wigan 50 years ago, what a treat to go into this website and actually see my street where I lived ( Lower St Stephen Street) so now I am looking for all the streets I can remember, some have changed and some haven't. I think it's a great idea !!! Keep up the good work, it brings back many memories.

Searching for information on my mothers families (my mother was born in Ince Wigan in 1925 her maiden name was Hill) William Hill was married to Ruth Birch and Nancy Jones was married to John Molyneux. My Granma Mary Jane Hill (nee Molyneux Born 1892 was the daughter of John and Nancy) lived in Pennington Lane Ince. She died in the 60's I didn't get to see her very much as we lived in rural North Yorkshire. I would be grateful of any information that any one has on the above families. Once again excellent site keep up the good work.

Like the site ,We go to haigh hall every week from Bury to walk my rescued greyhounds and have done so for the last 3 years.we meet seveal of our friends who are from Wigan with their dogs two things that i think could be done, first more bins to put dog poo in,espiecially in the wooded area you have put up signs to tell dog owners to pick up after their dogs how about putting some more bins so we can put the poo in.Second how about putting up some shelter in the courtyard near the cafe,after our walk we like to sit down and have a drink ,when it rains there is no shelter to go under and dogs can not go into the cafe just something very basic to keep us and our dogs dry I'm sure that other people would be very greatfull. Tony
