i used to live at wigan rd,Bryn,nr wigan.the good old days.

It was realy nice to find a site as good as this. As you can look up your local history, so keep sending in the photos.

ur pic of rosina close says that it is in Ashtion this is not right it is in Bryn Ashtion is not the same place

A real good site showing photo history of our town and the new gallery show's how wigan is today and contains photo's that we could be looking back on in twenty years in books.

Fascinating to see the streets,pubs and surrounding countryside, but where are the people? 35 years ago I lived in Wigan,so I am curious to see what has happened since then. Thank you, I will come back for more!

I would like to point out that streets such as Swan Lane, Long Lane and many others are not in Hindley but they are in Hindley Green maybe not the biggest place on earth but it does have its own name pity the so called experts from Wigan who run this site have never heard of it.


Response: Sorry Ethan, but the so called experts who run the site are singular... Brian! Blame me ;o) I've heard of Hindley Green. The names of the streets were taken from a Wigan AtoZ map.

My parents grew up in Wigan in the 1890s-1920s in Brook Lane. Visited in 2001. Loved it! We are returning in May 2004. Can anyone write me via email and suggest places of interest that I may visit IN WIGAN and surrounding areas. We are interested in a "private-Taxi" tour one day. Thanks for writing.

Logged on for a quick look, and ended up here for hours, need to come back and find out more. i have done some research a few years ago on my family history, and then i left it alone, your site might make me dig it out, i do have some details on seddon,s maloney, jolley and liptrot families if any one is looking for any of these. great site, i will be back!!

This page is awesome! My mum is from wigan, and I still have family there (including the mayor himself). I love the city and hope to return soon, just came out of interest!

Wigan did have a speedway team called the warriors i think .I am good friends with one of their former riders called colin smith..he is the captain of the coventry veterans speedway team for whom i also ride .. my mother was born in burscough just a few miles from wigan ....i also share my birthday with george formby...if anyone has any pictures or artifacts of wigan speedway i would be most interested

Um, correct me if i'm wrong. But it seems to me that lil' ol' Bryn has been forgotten about.We DO have a history but we are nowhere in the history books as Ashton is.There must be photo's somewhere, surely somebody, somewhere can give me pic's or information on the area (via this site). HELP ... we are being swallowed up by Ashton ...

I'm glad i visited this website as i was doing an R.E. project and managed to get pictures of st. maries r.c. church.

This is a good site.I have posted notices to try and contact any Browitts in Wigan as we may be related as my Grand father was Born in Wigan,as were my father and his brothers and sisters.My grandfather was killed inWW1

Its fantastic, cannot say enough about the content. Anyone having any more info on Fairhurst Hall, origin of name etc please
Also researching names Fairhurst, Sewart, Sewell, Stewart, Stuart if anyone interested please.
