When I first began researching my 'wigan' ancestors some years back, there wasn't a single site anywhere for Wigan, and now I've found yours, I must say, it's really great !!

So, if there are any DUNN'S, McNULTY'S, GILMLORE'S or LYON'S out there, why not look up my ancestory queries on the 'Genealogy' page.

Well done Brian - keep up the good work !!

So nice to see a picture of my grandad, Thomas Grundy in pits section with his horse King, unfortunately I never got the chance to meet him, but heard many a story about him and King! Many thanks, i've got something to show his Great Grandchildren.

Hi, I'm maltese but my husband, Michael McNamara, is a Wiganer and living in Malta for the last 15 years. It was lovely to see from where my husband is from. I heard a lot about Wigan but never visited. I hope I will soon. Lovely site keep it up.

Been working in the USA since 1999. Been craving for a chip butty ever since.
Enjoyed the website. Would appreciate a photograph of the inside of a chippy or a Pie shop for my American friends.

What a great site, love the pictures of the town. I left Wigan as a 11 year old when me Mam uprooted us to the Midlands. I still have Family in Wigan and its always great to come home and visit. I miss the Pies, decent chippies and the friendly people that make Wigan a unique town. Well done to both the Latics and Wigan Rugby (I'll never associate the name Warriors as this amounts to the b*****disation of a British sport by Americanising it) Those two teams make me proud. Any lads from the Springfield Area who went to Sacred Heart school between 1971 and 1976 please e-mail if you remember me.

I left Wigan in 1980 and emigrated to Sydney. I have many fond memories of Wigan. I served my appenticeship at Gullick dobson in Ince and Bulldog tools, Ince was involved in the dismanting of the Parks Forge when it closed, I remember the 200 ton press shown in the industry pictures section. I was a regularly at the Wigan Casino in the early to mid 70,s would love to see a section on the Casino, empress Ballroom. A history of that Old building would be a real memory jerker to many generations of Wiganers.
To put it a nutshell I love your site, Keep up the good work.
Cheers Steve Lowe

To Jim from Scotland
May I suggest you click on the Wigan Directory Link (just one of the sections that wasn't here 12 months ago) and then go to Health and Beauty Click on OPTICIANS and there you will find information which may help you to view ALL the other changes to this site over the last 12 months, also I suggest you click on the link to Forum, which was only started in March this year and has at present 127 members. I hope you find this advice useful.

Jim from Scotland....How does it go?.."If you cant think of "OWT" useful to say ... Then..Log off.Do us all a favour...I think this site is excellent..It may be old stuff to you,but that would depend on "how old you are/feel" I'm only 32 and have already gained a vast knowledge/understanding, about..Wigan/Mining/Heritage....Something I have surprised myself at being interested in...If you're bothered enough to make a negative comment, why not use this energy to submit something topical yourself..Ugggh!
