I just wanted to say a big thank you for the very existence of your wonderful site. Recently 2 people who were neighbours of mine got in touch with me via the site, and it's been wonderful taking a trip down memory lane. Thank you for keeping this up, and for the tremendous effort you and your supporters put into this site - it is marvellous and so interesting.

I lived in Wigan for two years (98-99). It's been a wonderful trip down memory lane to see all these pictures- though I missed seeing any from Poolstock! Hello to my former neighbors in Bewerley Close, everyone from Longshoot chapel, and many children and teachers from Mab's Cross, St. Catherine's, and St. Stephens primary schools. God bless...

After 30 years over here in god's country, I still miss good ale, real pies, Wigan Rugby, pub chat and really ' orrible jokes! Gathering at Broadmead's corner on Saturday night, the Ball Hall under the County, the Irish Rooms in the Market Hotel. the Park Cafe on Sunday afternoon etc.,etc.
I still love you Wigan, see you for a fast visit with the wife and two kids in August.
Thanks again for a beautiful site. I even got a pic of Woodfield Primary School. Cheers!

ive thoroughly enjoyed a trip back in time to my birthplace and the place i spent the first 24 years of my life, and honestly no matter where i am my heart will always be back in scholes, i was brought up in orchard house then in my teens i moved into the "upside down houses". theres definitely no place like home when it comes to being born and bred in wigan. xx

Does anyone remember or have pictures of the (small) resevoir type structure.(The Razzer). Situated behind Stubshaw Cross Labour Club, Bolton Rd, Stubshaw cross? My friends & I know of it and my parents told me to stay away from it..(1970's ish),I know we should'nt have been there..There was a pond which had "Ginny green teeth"!!!! on it. It was reported to have a resident "ghost" The White/Blue Lady" She had a dog with, red eye's. I think she was the same "ghost" that used to visit "Owd George's pond" Another local haunt......

Great site. I was born and lived in Wigan until my late teens and I still regard myself as a "Pie Eater" I arrived in Hertfordshire about 30yrs ago via Clevelys, Yorkshire, Singapore, Ireland.
I am tracing my family tree and have been working at it for about 10 yrs. My main family names are Beesley - Liptrot - Forshaw and Dawson. If anyone is interested in any of these I will be happy to share info.
Margaret.
