I'm so impressed by all the beautiful pictures and history about Wigan. It's beautiful and now i realize when my friend says, if i speak Wigan you'll not be able to unterstand me, she was right. I checked out the Wigan Dialect & Wigan Speyk and was amazed, to say the least. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be able to visit such a site and i would be pleased to visit there sometime in the future as i just love the buildings, especially the churches.

Loved the picture of the "Knoker-upper!" Wrote a children's book about a knocker-up named MARY SMITH, who was from the East End of London. I'm always looking for images of knocker-ups, and this is one of the best photos I've ever found. I love the gigantic clock in his hand. Thank you.

My Mum was born and raised in Wigan, came to Australia in the 1960's, married my Dad (an Aussie) and stayed. I have been lucky to visit Wigan many times and miss it terribly. I have always found the people wonderful and consider Wigan my second home. I miss it terribly and look forward to visiting again soon. This site is great, its a wonderful way of walking down memory lane and it helps a great deal when the homesickness gets really bad.

I would dearly like to hear from anyone that knows about Westwood House, Wigan. I am currently rewriting the biography of Lord Sydney (Thomas Townshend) and one of the mysteries surrounding him involves the Walmesleys of Dunkenhalgh who I think ended up at Westwood House, Wigan. In particular I am interested in Bishop Charles Walmesley who communicated on various occasions with Edmund Burke (a close colleague of Ld Sydney) or his sister Sarah Walmesley (b. at Wigan) who may have married a relative of Ld Sydney, Richard Townshend. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have visited wigan many times over the last 21 years,I married a Wigan lad Jimmy McDermott from
Whitley.I have so many wonderful memories of Wigan and would happily live in Wigan if only I could persuade my husband to move.I will always consider Wigan my second home and really enjoyed the website. The only regret I have was Central Park being turned into tesco,we did a lot of our courting there.

Wigan is a great place with great people that I miss. Does anyone remember me I wonder? I worked at Lowthers cakes, from 1989 til I left to have my son in 1992. He was born at Billinge. I lived in New Springs, and I loved it there. A special person there is in my thoughts.
