Loved the site. My ancestors came from Ireland to Ince around 1880 - Patrick Burke. In his later years he was the lamplighter (around 1914). Had a brother William. Married Julia Carr at St Williams RC church (does this still exist?) My grandfather, John Burke, married Mary Ann Wootten and my great aunt Margaret married John Westhead (father Peter)from Hindley. Any relatives out there???

I'm trying to find info on my great grandmother Sarah Jane Makinson's late husband, Isaac Orrell. He died on 28 Aug, 1893, from a type of TB at their home 249 Warrington Road, Ince. He was just 26 years old. They married at St George's Church, Scholes, on 6 Aug, 1888. At the time, they were both living in 34 Upper Morris Street, Scholes.
Isaac's mother was called Mary Orrell (b. 1830 in Ince). In 1881, the family was living at 208 Warrington Road, Ince. From the census return, we know he has six siblings. They were: William Orrell (b.1850); Catherine Orrell (b. 1857); Martha Orrell (b.1859); Joseph Orrell (b.1861); Henry Orrell (b.1863) and Mary Orrell (b. 1869).
Please get intouch if you have any info or check out my webpage:

I grew up at 6 Belle Green Lane - some people will still remember "Sally Foy" who used to have the chippy. I certainly miss those times around the 1970's 80's

I have traced my ancestors Goodloe, (Gidlow,Gidloe) to Aspull, Wigan. There was a Gidlow Hall and I think there is still a Gidlow Lane. Any help and data would be greatly appreciated.

Great site, left wigan in 1971 at the age of 12 and I still think about the place often. I lived at 29 Alvanley Close, Kitt Green and before that I lived on Ormskirk Rd Pemberton and I remember the M6 getting built. My school was St Thomas Mores RC secondary and my primary school was St Cuthberts between 1967 and 1970 and I remember the opening of the new church. I used to love walking along the canal and playing in the wigan pier area with school friends during school lunch times when it was a ruin. Our house backed onto the Heinz factory sports ground and we used to play on it all the time. If any old friends remember me please get in touch.
