i found wiganworld very good to be on but there are some people on there that are so rude ignorant and all seem to stick together. newcomers are not made very welcome if they say something wrong ( but i did like the site )

Wigan is a great place with great people that I miss. Does anyone remember me I wonder? I worked at Lowthers cakes, from 1989 til I left to have my son in 1992. He was born at Billinge. I lived in New Springs, and I loved it there. A special person there is in my thoughts.

I LIVE IN WIGAN AND WILL ALL MY LIFE, BEST TOWN IN THE WORLD I WOULD NOT MOVE OUT OF WIGAN FOR THE WORLD.

as for the lady who wanted her wedding at haigh hall, go for it! i used to work there and it is a great setup , every week families had the best of times, and so they should its their big day after all!!

What a good site, does anyone know if the French Market is coming back to Wigan?

Are there any Davenports or Birchalls out there. My family came from Wigan. My g.grandparents were William Davenport and Isabella Birchall. Are there any of their decendants still in Wigan.

Am writing family history for my kids and my grandmother was from Wigan, is buried there, and mi mum was born there. I found wonderful things thank you when we came to Wigan all the places were pulled down in Scholes. I was sorry not to get photo of St Catharines Churh, grandma sang in the choir there. I was born in Bolton le Sands near Morecambe.

At the age of 13 I was Tom Whalleys first Saturday helper.I will be 63 years old this year.Tom Whalleys shop was around for half a century.From the experience I gained working for Tom I became a zoo keeper on leaving school and spent many happy and very interesting years looking after all kinds of wild animals at Belle Vue Zoo and Chester Zoo.All my life I have had a great interest in all wild nature and have filmed with Gerald Durrel for Channel 4.I have Tom to thank for giving me my first start in looking after animals and birds and I will be forever grateful.

I used to work at Tom Whalleys Pet Shop. I had a great time there and all the animals were treated with the best care possible. I loved it there and miss my workmates loads, Linda, Jill, Amy and Brian. So dont go slagging off the Pet shop it was one of the best and the oldest business still running in Wigan and Wigan has lost great history now that its gone.

I think the slagging off of Tom Whalleys Pet Shop is wrong. They were always very helpful and always looked after the animals properly. I always use to go in there when i was a kid.

The pictures of Winstanley Hall are great.

well wiganers are very friendly :-) if you had stayed longer micheal you would know that.
yah the roads are busy in wigan hard to cross the road. but its a lovely town all the same :-)
