Working for the College, I am trying to research its history and the history of the town
Comments
I have found the contents fascinating. I am ashamed to confess that, having worked in the area for 12 years, I did not know about the ancient history of the town, though I was aware of its importance during the UK's industrial past as well as its present status as both an industrial centre and an important rail centre.
I will do my best to promote the site among colleagues and students but I would really appreciate reading more about the history of the College in this site: I have not found any reference to it, though I know it has a long and successful history in the area. I know it started as Wigan & District Mining College about 150 years ago (perhaps more?), but know little else. Can anyone enlighten me?

Great site - I enjoyed the photos of the Parish Church, where I was confirmed. Brings back memories of Sunday School in the bell tower. Since moving from Miry Lane many years ago, I've lived in Hawaii, Los Angeles and Toronto but always enjoy my visits to Wigan to see family and friends.
