the Beatles did not appear in Wigan in October 1963 - it was October 1964. I know because I was there. On the bill with them was Mary Wells who sang 'My Guy' which didn't come out until 1964.

Must spend more time here. I was in Wigan for 25 year or more. I founded The Bijou Theatre Company, proving theatre in schools and also putting on a local pantomime. I also founded and edited for five years - Wigan Scene magazine, which in one edition featured the actress Elizabeth Larner - born on the old serwarage farm in Scott Lane, Wigan. She's missing from the famous Wiganers list. Her main claim to fame is that she played Ammonia in "Up Pompii". But she was a very much admired West End Musical Comedy star.

Looking for information and pictures of Winstanley Hall. Found everything I needed to know here on this website that couldn't be found previously. Fantantasic pictures of this little known treasure that has been kept hidden from common folk!

I was interested in the memory of the overhead wire cash system at Peterkins grocers.
Does anyone remember any more, or have any photos showing them?
(I have a website on cash railways at http://www.cashrailway.co.uk/)

Great site. My mother grew up in Wigan and is in one of the Walking Days photos for St. Micheals (In front of the Bowling Green Hotel). The date says 1950, however I think it may be closer to 1947.

A lovely site. Have only ever visited Wigan a few times, computer fairs and shopping, very recently when staying with relatives in Billinge. Loved it! Wigan was a joke when I as a girl in Liverpool very many years ago - not now!

I have just moved to wigan and think half the people of wigan can't drive at all. Most get done for drink driving and so on!.Everyday you see Ambulance flashing along the roads.

You have more one way street than any other place and get road blocks everyday at 2pm.

Are wigan roads safe for us?.

Your roads never change and are poor for people too cross.
