Good to see the old town. Although I don't miss the place much I can see people are making more of an effort to keep thier surroundings clean and respectable. Full marks to all the hard workers in Wigan.

Re: New Information Yards of Wigan. Yet again I have found out something I wanted to know from this site and other helpful viewers.
My Grandmother's cousin married a man who had originated from Dickinsons Yard.
Of course no a modern day clue, but I always take the course of my lot do not fall far from the tree - tribal grasslands sort of style, the area being Pemberton. Lo and behold, once again, the new listing Yards of Wigan solves the query and my conviction. Ormskirk Road. Thank You Brian.

My mother is from the Ashton/Bryn area (Whitledge Green area). My family and I have visited often through the years an aunt and uncle who lived on Old Wigan Road - close to the Library. Thank you for the site and all the goodies I have found so far. It has brought back many fond memories.

As an exile I have been searching for such a site for sometime-it has to be the best web site I have come across and it has given me great pleasure in viewing many of the wonderful photographs. Very nostalgic too.

Hi,
Does anyone know about my mother's family, the Ricketts? They were from Wigan. Helen Ricketts, my grandmother, was born in 1932.
Also, does anyone have any info on an event where my grandmother's cousin saved a lot of miners by holding up a collapsing mine roof with his back? if so, email me @ stephensmith86@hotmail.com

Hugely entertaining, informative site with many superb photographs. I lived on Wigan Lane (Greenhill) between 1971 and 1979. The pictures bring back so many very happy memories. Alas, it seems that two of my schools - Gidlow Middle and Whitley High - appear to have made way for housing estates. That's life. And of course the Latics now play at the JJB Stadium. Things just move on! All the best and thank you. I must visit Wigan again SOON!
