Your website really took me back home. I lives Downall Green for twenty odd years before emigrating to OZ with my wife Debbie Hall(nee Jones). Fabulous photographs. Reet gradly mon!

Loved the info in the directories of 1869 and 1881, I actually found references to the Dawber family for the first time. I'm also interested in the Oldfields who had a brewery in Wigan in the 1880s.

Great site, My brother live in new springs on gray close so good to see some of the places we go past while visiting. Be back to visit again in may when barnsley play at jjb. Might see some more of these sights then

What a great site Brian. I left Wigan with my family in 1966 but I have been back a few times 74,76,95, and 2002 and you seem to have captured the true spirit on wigan. Well done, I'll be back, not only to your site but to Wigan as well.

I love your site. I have been researching my ancestors who were born and raised in Wigan and area. Your old gallery gives me such insight into what life was like in the 1800's. Thank you for such a wonderful collection of pictures and information.

My paternal grandparents were born in Wigan and immigrated to Nova Scotia in 1906. I have researched my Wigan ancestors as far back as 1801. My sister and I spent a delightful week in Wigan in Sept, 2002 visiting cousins that we tracked down.

My very first "Real Luv" Peter Carr came from Bacup. Used to catch the bus from Accy to meet him. I was 17yrs old He was 20. He lived with a Sister Bernice (or Bernadette)at 36 Tong Lane). Great find,already passed it on to my cousin. I'm looking for Prescott's. My ggrandmother was Alice Prescott b.1872 in Wigan as was my uncle Gustav Reichert b.1906 (her son)

A very enjoyable few hours with your page. I left Higher Ince in 1960 aged 19 yrs. Done family tree searching in Scholes and Lancs. Over 1000 names in my family tree, including dozens of Wigan surnames and a 20 year study of the BOOTLE surname.
I have replied to some of the entries and would be happy to exchange information with others.

This site has helped me appreciate the greatness of our town, wigan is finally getting the recognition is deserves, after the burough achieved the excellent status in the latest inspections. Glad to see pictures of Angers as i was told so much about it at school but never saw it, so cheers! Plus what am glad to see is development, the arcade plan looks good, i hope more buildings are developed over the upcoming years to give wigan even more character and status
