This is a fantastic site. I've been on it for hours. Interested in researching THE ROYAL HOTEL, One Standishgate, Wigans where my great grandmother Sarah Ann WHITESIDE was raised by her uncle RICHARD WHITESIDE. Hope that the communication site can get back up - I will definitely log in again. AND hope to visit. Thanks for the great job on this site.

Hi I used to live in Shevington till 1967 and I am now trying to find out about my family. It appears that my great grandparents named Ambrose ran two pubs in the Shevingtin area The Navigation at GAthurst and another one called something like the gafiyard/gaffayard near where the Co-op was/is. Has anyone any info one this pub or indeed my great grandparent Ambrose, Grandparents Harold and Lillian Ambrose(Nee Barnes). I think I may have a relative liing in Standish called Ronnie/Robert related through the Barnes side. PLEASE HELP ME. I'm really coming up against brick walls as no-one seems to remember Great Granfathers first name.

Eyup! A few weeks ago I had been telling my daughter how you can find almost ANYTHING on the Internet. To prove my point I typed my name into the browser window and there I was! Nothing special, just a photo here and a mention there... you should all try it with YOUR names. As if to prove me wrong the said daughter typed the name of our street and there it was!! Out little street of terraced houses was in a photograph on YOUR site! Anyway, having nothing better to do I just typed "Bickershaw Festival" in the browser window, and guess what!! There's me! A photo of Bickershaw Festival in 1972 complete with hippies, mud and ME! (I hope my Mum doesn't see it as I was only fourteen at the time and I think I fibbed about where I was going.) (I hope my sister doesn't see it as I was wearing HER coat.) It's a small world intit?!

Plees lern how fot spel proper will'ta! I cawn't mek out half o' wot yer tryin't say and tha'll never pass thi' English exams bowt it!
