I was looking up information on Wigan as I was born there in 1970 and lived in Sussex Close, would love to see the house that I left in 1974 with my parents and brothers. We then moved to Australia.

I love this site...but just a quick note to anyone looking at the street pictures. The 2nd picture of averham close in ashton is not actually of averham close...it is in fact newlyn drive..I hope that this will be corrected shortly as not to mislead any unsuspecting tourists. Also it would be nicer if a picture could be taken of averham close on a day that the bins are not being collected.

I've just been told about the site and am having a a quick look. I first went to the ABC minors when I was five (many moons ago) with all the kids from the street. I got nine pence to go with, 6d to get in (two + a half pence), 1d bus fare and a penny to spend on a buttered crust at the Millgate chippy on the way home. My favourite was Flash Gordon who at 5 years old, was to me absolutely marvellous. I can remember never being too keen on all those cows stampeding in the cowboy films though, I always felt sorry for them - but I'm just a girl!!!

Hey, i am Barrie Arrowsmiths daughter. My dad used to own platts herbals, the stall in the olod market in the 70's. when the market shut he moved into a shop on standishgate, only natural, and is currently still there as owner and chiropodist. I just wondered if anyone remembers my dads stall, or my dad? i believe he was a favourite!! So he tells me!

This is a fantastic site. I've been on it for hours. Interested in researching THE ROYAL HOTEL, One Standishgate, Wigans where my great grandmother Sarah Ann WHITESIDE was raised by her uncle RICHARD WHITESIDE. Hope that the communication site can get back up - I will definitely log in again. AND hope to visit. Thanks for the great job on this site.

Hi I used to live in Shevington till 1967 and I am now trying to find out about my family. It appears that my great grandparents named Ambrose ran two pubs in the Shevingtin area The Navigation at GAthurst and another one called something like the gafiyard/gaffayard near where the Co-op was/is. Has anyone any info one this pub or indeed my great grandparent Ambrose, Grandparents Harold and Lillian Ambrose(Nee Barnes). I think I may have a relative liing in Standish called Ronnie/Robert related through the Barnes side. PLEASE HELP ME. I'm really coming up against brick walls as no-one seems to remember Great Granfathers first name.
