Really great site, makes me want to come home. Takes me back to when I was a little girl looking at the street photographs. I even managed to find a link to the Uncle Joe's website and print off the song that I am gonna teach everyone. Thanks again :)

I was born in Wigan at 7 Boyswell lane, went to St Mary's school from 1945 to 1954. we lived with my grandmother and uncle / aunts thier name was Mc Nab our next door neihgbors where the Whittles.
Just to mention your Wigan words I remember a word we used to pretend to be a cowboy or some other hero (Roy Rogers maybe ) and it was "Cault"

it is a great site, it actually made me a bit homesick even after beeing in australia for thirtyfour years.I used to live just outside Standish and I remember the construction of the M6 motorway. Lots of love to all you Wiganers out there!

A wonderful site! Crammed with fascinating information, past and present, lots of variety and marvelous photos.
As my father's side of the family all came from the Wigan area, I was searching for Ranicar and Aspinall relatives and came across this site while surfing. Was delighted to find a photo of my great-grandfather's store, 'Ranicar & Son'. Continued good luck to all connected with this exceptional site! I shall be a frequent visitor!
Very best wishes, Christine

What a superb site! Saw the old Park Hotel-brought back many memories. Did vocals in a Blues &Soul band back in the 60's called The Hurgs. Used to play Room @ theTop regularly. Called in Park during our break. 2nd. half was always better! Anyone remember Bluesville in Scholes?

This is a good Web Site for me to keep up with what is happening in the place I was born 51 years ago. I still have family living in that area and in north Wales and I call them often, but the connection to Wigan is strengthened even more by getting to use this web site. I went to school in the 1960s at St. Johns and St. John's Fischer School for Boys on Baytree Road. My mother's name was Maureen and my father's name was Gordon. They are both deceased. I had a twin brother named Steve who attended those schools with me. He died in 1999. I also have a younger sister named Rosanne who went there as well. I have a younger brother named John who attended the Sacred Heart School on Springfield Street. I would like to hear from anyone who attended those schools during the same time period. Keep up the good work in maintaining this web site. It is a little piece of home for me - I hope to be able to come back soon to show my wife what Wigan is like today.
