Found that chatrooms are not safe. Maybe if you chatted with someone and actually met them. think internet dating is the wave of the future.

Hmmm so users of the Wigan chatroom think its safe!!! The chatroom is wide open to anyone of 6 billion people in the world who own a computer and an internet connection. All chatrooms are safe, but you can't say the same for the people so get real and don't regard ANY chat room as safe! Just approach chatrooms with a high degree of caution and don't be sucked in with the chat crap, make a good choice of the people you want to talk.

Interesting to see some of the "Regular users" getting upset about the chat room. Unfortunately the minority usually spoil it for the majority. There are thousands of chat channels in MIRC, ICQ, or chat in Yahoo and Microsoft Messenger. The Wigan chat room cannot be mediated over 24hours a day so its left to the people in chat rooms to act a bit more civilised, but that very seldom happens.

why do you have to delete the chat room it is the best thing on the site and is a great way to keep in touch with friends and family that where born in wigan. and "REGULAR USER" the person who hates children using the chatroom if you would belaive it there are more adults use it than children. What is wrong with children using it any way you age-ist person.
so please post this message because i need an answer to the best thing about this site being deleted!!!!

Have really enjoyed looking through the photos and reading all the info. I've also posted a couple of "MEMORIES". The photos brought back lots of memories from my childhood in the 70s/80s. Nostalgia, eh?!Keep up the good work and lets see more photos. As a photographer myself I'm hoping to photograph at least some of the before, during and after of the "Grand Arcade"; I never bothered when the Old Market Hall was being demolished/The Galleries built, and now regret not getting some pictures. Good to see that SOMEONE bothered though. Be interesting to see how the site develops, and how The Wigan Times turns out too, so shall stay tuned!!

Hello! I'm trying to trace my family history and find a couple of long lost cousins last known to be in the Wigan area. They would be the desendents of Joseph and Ann Appleton.
Joseph and Ann were 57 and 49, respectively, in 1881. They lived at 98 Gidlowlane in Wigan. They had four children-- Mary, Joseph, James and Anna. Ann's last name was either Reed or Reid. She was Ann Appleton's daughter from her first marriage. I don't know if the family was English or Irish, but Mary Appleton married an Irishman, Patrick Calwey, a blacksmith/laborer who lived at 94 Gidlow Lane with Matthew and Margaret Thorpe. Patrick and Mary got married at St. John's Roman Catholic Church in 1883. They came the US with their kids-- Mary Ann Cawley and Joseph Francis Cawley, both of whom were born in Wigan. They had four children in the US-- Dorothy, Madeline, Jack and Lola. Lola was the last to die and I know she kept in touch with cousins in Wigan up to her death. Joseph Francis was my great grandfather. If anyone knows anything please give me a shout out...
I'm at theacm@yahoo.com
