A very good site. My ancestors came from Wigan. One had the Kings Head Pub which was at 1, Coopers Row. Does anyone know whether the building still exists or what happened to it?

Missing Wigan

I looked up my name 'Brian Ascroft' on Google and Wigan came up. My father 'George Ascroft' was borne in Wigan aprox 1909 and was a coal miner before he moved to London in aprox 1930s, so I think I might try and trace some of my relatives. He had 5 brothers and 1 sister (Sally ?). One of his brothers 'Percy' lived near us in London. When I was aprox 10 years old in 1956 I remember two of his brothers used to visit us in London a few times once a year but his other two brothers died in coal mining accidents before I was born. I spent ages looking at this excellent site of Wigan before I saw this web page which prompted me to write in this guestbook. I would be delighted to hear from anybody that knows anything of my family.

AB FAB Can see the house where i was born in chadwick st one of the eight laft standing when all the terraces were demolised what a shame plenty of good memories.
