Brilliant..absolutely brilliant. Having been born/brought up in Wigan..Scholes then Whelley, it has been an emotional "meeting up" with places I frequented as a lad..a thousand years ago..:-)

i was just doing some research on wigan, as i want to do my disertation on it and i came across this great sight. Keep up the good work.

Has this area been demolished?

Would there still be some Brynite members of Bryn Labour Club in their 70s or 80s still around? I lived in Bryn in the 40s

I was absolutley thrilled to see the old pictures of Dower House Farm, what a shame it was demolished......i coundt belive the counicl were not prepared to put a presavation order on it or invest some money to save it in 1994, the house remained pertty much the same inside and out as shown in the photographs untill damaged by fire, the entire site was then demolished

Ferdy , Tha having a laugh, in't forties & fifties Bryn club was one terraced house, tha couldn't swing a cat never mind dance,

hi terrence,re bryn labour club,in the late 1940s on a saturday night they used to have dancing but due to there being a full size billiard table in the room everyone had to dance in a clockwise motion around the table the best dancers at that time was polly ince & harry wild, ask joe charnock

My mum was born in Wigan and every summer in my younger days, mum and I would go to Wigan and stay with her Aunts ( my great Aunts) at 35 Woodhouse Lane. Sadly they are all gone now, but warm fun memories remain.

If anyone wants to find somebody located in Bryn then Bryn Labour Club is probably the place to start looking. We have members here who have been a part of the Bryn community for years and we're all like one big happy family.

I'm trying to find people who remember or who worked at Rose Bridge Mill. Was it in Ince? Did you work there? Also looking for people who might have worked at Howe Bridge Mill, Atherton or Laburnum Mill, Atherton. Please e-mail me if you can help. Fran

My daughter is visiting Wigan/Ince and this site was a gem to find. I feel closer to her knowing where she is.
Excellent web site, and from my girls descriptions, wonderful people reside there too. I also hope to visit one day.
