I remember being told to "hold hands" but I don't seem to remember you. I was born in Canada and when I first started school we lived in Bolton Road. We moved to Crescent Avenue when I was 16.If you post your E address I would be pleased to correspond and will explain why I am not posting mine.eqn23

hi nancy, you & I started our school lives together, I was told to hold your hand whilst walking up the slope to our classroom & mrs hughes ,my very first school day,& our mums apparently were the best of friends,i think that at the time you lived in cansfield grove,i lived in old road, my mum used to joke with me by telling me that your mum named you after her.as her name was NANCY BRYAN

Nice to see the street in Ashton where I lived and the school I taught in during mid 1950s.
Great to see so much info. As my husband also is from Ashton (Robin Hood Pub) we probably have an early photo taken from his bedroom window.

This is great. Have not been back to Bryn. where I was born, for about 7 years and when I did visit could not recognise most of it Wigan was the place we used to go to do "real" shopping. Freda is very familiar and myfamily name loally was Bromelow altho I believe it was Brimelow. Left the area when I joined the ATS and never went back to live since I married a Southerner!!! Best of luck to the web site. Will follow with interest

The pics on this site are brilliant and been back on here everyday since I found out about the site. I work at civic Centre right next door to the new Grand Arcade and only get to hear and see the external building work - it's great to sneak a preview inside of where I am probably gonna spend most of my lunch hours!! I have already recommended the site to all my work colleagues.

I am enjoying reminiscing on this site there is so much to see!
I went to St Stephens school then on to Whelley senior school I have lost touch with everyone since moving to Essex in 1963 and I have not recognised any names I remember from school!
It is nice to keep in touch with my home town through this site
Keep up the good work !
