Hi Cathy its me again just been talking to my daughter and when she see's his wife she will ask her. My daughter has the first book he wrote but it was a bit of a scribble (as she puts it) you can hardly read it and there is a picture of Jimmy in it. she reckons that he only had a few printed for friends. So I was mistaken sorry about that.
Who did your friend work for??

Joan Neville, did you work at C&A the same time as my mum Barbara Johnson? Would be early to mid Sixties, I remember quite a few names of people who worked there at the time.

I am looking for records of my grandmothers family name Donaldson. She was born in the house beside George Formby in Wigan and left there around 1910/1912. Her mother and father were originally from Belfast and i think he moved over to Wigan for work in the late 19th century, my grandmother was then born in 1901. Her name was Charlotte Meek Donaldson. Her father is John and her mother Jane.

Have just uploaded some photo's from the late1960's,taken when I worked ar C&A's in Wigan.Need some help in remembering names.C&A's had a policy that two people couldn't have the same surname,so they gave you a name usually connected with the place you came from,ie I was Miss Holland as I came from Upholland.Confusing when identifing
people!

Anyone out there with information on the Stephensons (Harold and Harry) who helped set up Wigan Rugby Club? I'm told that Harry had his own box at the ground. Any information gratefully received.

The web site Wigan World is excellent to pick up historical information about Wigan. We moved to Adelaide Australia in 1979.Only revisited Wigan in 1989. We would love to go back again to visit. I did find a photo of some old school mates in around 1962 on your site. Amazing.

Hi there,

I'm searching for a newspaper article about Aspull dog training show on the 12th Dec 08. I have no idea which paper it was in. I am aware there was on in the WEP on the 15th of Dec which I have however I have been told there's another one with a picture of my and my dog possibly in the Wigan Courier.

If anyone knows anything about this article or which paper it was in could they get in contact with me at ariesdavies@hotmail.com

Thanks

I think this site is really impressive. Well done, and many thanks to all involved. I've particularly enjoyed looking at the photographs of Wigan streets, although I must admit that the sight of the street where I was brought up (Green Street, Platt Bridge) brought a lump to my throat as it showed just a patch of green where my old home once stood. Tom Sutch very kindly provided me with a long-distance view of my old home, the only one I've seen so far and which I am very pleased to have. If there is anyone out there with a close-up photo of Gore's shop, please get in touch.

Thanks again for a superb website.

Mary
