Can someone please put the following on your general info? Thank you.

Community Showcase for Carers- with a difference

Thursday 11th June, 10.00am-2.00pm

Are you an organisation delivering a project within the Wigan Borough- how creative are you at promoting what you do?
The Carers centre are inviting local organisations to show case the fantastic work that they do by delivering short workshops, demonstrations or fun activities to Carers of all ages within the Wigan Borough.

We want the event to be interactive, fun and show Carers what is out there in their Community, that they can get involved with. Thanks to Wigan Youth Zone there will be quite a lot of space including some outside space too, so whatever your idea is we would love to hear from you.
Some organisations have already got their names down so don’t miss out on this opportunity to connect to the community and gain free publicity and promotion for your organisation.

Contact either Gail or Pat at the Carers Centre today on 01942 705959.

vera, some of us living in Wigan can't get on to the Forum although we are on the other threads. Me and Vince have been trying for ages to register on the Forum but no response. If you come to Wigan, you need to go the the Wigan Life Centre in Library St. to find any family History.

I was born in Wigan, lived at 136 Wallgate. Mom had a dress shop, Ascot Fashions, and my grandparents, Alice Aspey Seal and James C. Seal owned a grocery store next door. I went to St. Thomas School and then Wigan Girls High School. I am researching my Meadows Ancestors and am returning for a visit to Wigan in August 2015.Some of the places I remember are no longer standing...including my mother's and grandparents shops. Sad! Really enjoy looking at Wigan World and have tried to register so that I can download photos, but I guess you are having site problems. Looking forward to visiting Wigan!

Actually seeking ancestors of John and Caroline Seddon, my great grandparents. Wondering if anyone has a photo of them and their family that could be included in our family tree book. they lived in Aspull, John died in c1895 and Caroline died in 1897 both are buried at the cemetery of St Elizabeth. Hping somewhere over there may be able to help me with this quest. Haere Mai from New Zealand

As children we were told nanny greenteeth would get us
if we went too near the canal or flash. This was supposedly the weedy growth in the water.

Rob, when we used to go dancing at Abbey Lakes in the 50s/60s, we used to look at the hermits house which was opposite and we once went up the path.

Refer to posts about hermits of Abbey Lakes. They were Tommy and Eileen Williams.Brther & sister. Father was builder. Tom found father dead in workshop. My mother grew up with them. My uncle Ted Sewart lived opposite at 2 Spensers Lane. He and neighbour mary were only people who they would see.Shortly after fathers death they withdrew to life of recluses. Provisions delivered. AS small boys we would see them occasionally from our bedroom window in their back yard in early hours of morning. They would wave back at us. Mum called on them when we visited Uncle but her efforts got less and less response. Mum and Uncle died 20 yrs ago. Mums grandfather was head gardener at Abbey Lakes pleasure gardens. He was Thomas Hurst. Mums father was collier at Blundells Pit Pemberton Mum worked at Baxters stores, but I see that it is now demolished. Anyone heard of Ginny Greenteeth?!! A deep sinister pond or flooded mine shaft, not sure which but used to throw stones in it as a boy.

I would like to know if anyone can tell be why the Wiend is so called. Wiend is a sloping area of land, but I have fount reference to the Weint (Weind) which is a passageway. Either could make sense, but if the spelling changed does anyone know why?
