Can anyone tell me if there was an army base/barracks in Hardybutts, Wigan around 1940-1950. Possible location for a member of the Cameronians, Scottish Rifles?
Thanks

Really struggling to get on to the forum. On checking the list of members, it looks like there have been none since last October. Feeling very frustrated. I have even created a new bt e mail address but alas, to seemingly no avail.

I was born in Bolton, Lancs., spent 11 years in England (speaking Wiganese)
Emigrated to Oz, started there in a one room school in the bush, subsequently moved to town, where the children there called me "a wop" not knowing where I originated from my speech, which never seemed to bother the 'bush kids'.
After 14 years in Oz, I came to the U.S. and raised a family here,
I now have great grandchildren x 4.
The last time I saw Barrow Bridge, Stonehenge and Roman Baths was in 1988, and the last visit to Oz was 1999.
I miss British humour and Cornish pasties and fish & chips But my wish now is to go to Tasmania where my brother still resides

Can someone please put the following on your general info? Thank you.
Community Showcase for Carers- with a difference
Thursday 11th June, 10.00am-2.00pm
Are you an organisation delivering a project within the Wigan Borough- how creative are you at promoting what you do?
The Carers centre are inviting local organisations to show case the fantastic work that they do by delivering short workshops, demonstrations or fun activities to Carers of all ages within the Wigan Borough.
We want the event to be interactive, fun and show Carers what is out there in their Community, that they can get involved with. Thanks to Wigan Youth Zone there will be quite a lot of space including some outside space too, so whatever your idea is we would love to hear from you.
Some organisations have already got their names down so don’t miss out on this opportunity to connect to the community and gain free publicity and promotion for your organisation.
Contact either Gail or Pat at the Carers Centre today on 01942 705959.
