G'Day, Came across your website whilst searching for info on pits girls. I have a photo/postcard from circa 1905-10 of a group of 4 Wigan pit girls, that My Great Uncle had sent to my grandmother. My Uncle was from North Wales who went to work in the coal mines in the Wigan area. Do you have an email address so that I can forward you a copy for your records here on this website. Perhaps someone can identify who they are.

Hi Margaret from USA, Alan Monk is my uncle. He is my dad's brother, my dad is Graham Monk and they have an older brother Maurice Monk. Sadly Alan died this year (2015) but he spent most of his life in Congleton with his wife Irene (she sadly passed away c2000). They had two children Diane and Gareth and 4 grandaughters.

What a joy to find this site. I finally traced my family back to Pitt Street in Wigan in 1844.

Loved looking at all the Billinge Hospital Photos. Even though before I worked there,in 1971. Would love to know if there are any photos of New Year's Day Babies born in the old hospital in 1960. My Brother was born there.

Hello XRH, I remember you, you certainly kept the place happy and interesting, always helpful to new members and did some very good posts on various subjects. Your Photos of old Wigan were a great help to many who lived abroad. Hope to see you soon on the new site your cheerful disposition has certainly been missed. Good luck, Joseph.

My elderly father Hugh Birks (born 1917) served in the Royal Artillery with Wigan resident Henry ISHERWOOD (born ~1914). They were survivors of sinking of Troopship Strathallan December 21, 1942. Dad wishes to contact any relative of Henry. We have a few photos to share. Please contact us at John.Birks@Live.Com
