We sometimes feel homesick as we moved to Canada 10 months ago. It was great to see pictures of our home town and the Orwell, which is where we met. We have lots of memories from Wigan - hi to all our friends and family in Pemberton, Aspull, Standish Lwr Ground, Standish and Ashton. We miss Pooles pies, and the Rugby - good luck for the season.

Hi fellow "Pie-Eaters"
I was born in Wigan and still think that there is no place quite like it! I have lived in various places including Singapore and Northern Ireland. I think this is a great site and will be looking at it often.
I have been researching my family history for about ten years and my main family names are Dawson, Forshaw, Liptrot, Beesley plus many others in the Wigan area. I went to Beech Hill Primary School and the Girls
High School. I will dig out some photos for the site.
Congratulations,
Margaret

Very enjoyable site; will be back. Am researching the Gore, Marsden, Livesey, Walls and Glover families. (My maternal grandfather was Samuel Marsden of Abram, and my paternal grandfather Peter Gore of Leigh.)
On a different tack, has anyone information about the term 'connyfodle', used by my grandmother to mean 'throw together', as when you cook something but haven't got quite the right ingredients -hence 'connyfodle pudding?

Superb site - brought back great memories of Wigan. I was born and reared in Belle Green Lane, Ince and went to Belle Green School '40 to 46 and Hindley and Abram Grammar School '46 to '51. Will look out some old photos and send them on.

I really enjoy the site and am a regular visitor to the pages. I am looking at my family history and am keen to reminisce with anyone who remembers St.Josephs school in the late 30's (Nellie Sullivan) or Little westwood/Kays houses and the Halliwell family there. Thanks

I live in St Paul's Bay Malta with my partner who comes from Wigan.
We are planning to visit his home town some day this year as my daughter is half from Wigan. I'm really looking forward to visit this town which my partner is so proud of.
Even me, I heard about 'put wood'n hole' and even about 'turo love'. I think it's a great town

What a tremendous site, I can tell you have spent many an hour building this, taking care of the many links and facts. The best site on Wigan I have seen. Brings a tear to my eye looking at the way Wigan used to be.
More of the same please. Makes me even more proud to be "A Wigan'er" (If that's possible) Would like to see info on births/marriages and deaths though! Think it would top the site off nicely...WELL DONE.

What a really marvellous site about Wigan!
Indeed, it's the best I've seen. I wonder if it would be possible to eventually include other Wigan Directories and maybe (searchable) Census information?
I've bookmarked the site and will pass it on to my friends.

Comments: Hi - enjoyed your site. My Dad and his family (Marsdens) left Wigan to come to NZ in the 20's. I believe they lived in Poolstock Lane. I plan to visit Wigan in April. I can't wait. My Dad died in 1960 but I clearly remember things he said like telling me to "put wood'nt hole". Kia ora and thank you.
