After leaving a message on this site, I found my late father's family, I was over the moon, I signed up on friends reunited on their geneology site, which got me nowhere. Its a great site, should be more sites like yours. Dad loved Wigan and now I can understand why. Thank You.

Brilliant site, reminds me of my all too brief visits whilst researching the family name. Would love to hear from anyone who is connected. Why no mention in famous people of James Dawber the blind organist and secretary of the International Music Society.

To Ann Ball : Wow! I met my 3rd cousin who lives in Wigan about 2 yrs ago now. Both she and another cousin living in Canada had been working on our family tree and posted it on the internet and that's how I discovered both of them! Well Catherine Tabley was my great, great, great grandmother (her daughter being Margaret Atkinson who was Elizabeth Brogan's mother who was Margaret (Maggie)Horrocks' mother who was Doris (Dolly) MacLean's mother who was my mother's mother (Elizabeth). Elizabeth Brogan and her daughter Maggie Horrocks emmigrated to Canada either before or just after WW1 to the province where I grew up : Nova Scotia. My mother only discovered the names of her great grandmothers thanks to my cousins' efforts on our family tree but she remembered having a heard a story when she was a little girl (she knew her great grandmother Elizabeth Brogan as a small child) and there was some very vague story about this name "Tabley or De Tab" (at the time Mom never knew that was the surname of one of our ancestors). Anyway, there was some vague story about someone holding this little girl's hand as the carriage of Queen Victoria drove by them (in England I guess obviously) and the woman (probably and aunt of the little girl according to Mom) mentioned something to the effect that it should have been the little girl in the carriage. That sounds so hokey and I remember Mom thinking that as well but when we discovered that Catherine Tabley was our great (...)grandmother, wow. Who knows how the actual story went and what the significance of it was. Has anyone any information on it ?

Ann Ball : I guess we must be related somehow then as well! I hope you'll see this and contact me if possible!

Looking forward to hearing more information!
Kind regards,
Donalda Clements

Superb site, especially the Fred Dibnah items. Although I am very proudly Salford born and bred I am a Lancashire Lad and enjoy reading about aspects of historical Lancashire. I will pass on your site to various family and friends throughout the world. Sithee
