Dr. Winston, I couldn't agree with you more re: bridge over Leigh Canal at Poolstock being an accident waiting to happen. It is clearly ill thought out and an obvious danger zone. Now, if you look at Wigan M.B.C. website you will see that the idiots have awarded themselves a 'Top Environmental Award' for that bit of stupidity. How is permission ever granted for this sort of obstructive work ? My opinion is this, They will create that much congestion into and out of Wigan as an excuse to start a 'congestion charge' and then, guess what, nobody will ever go there !

how poolstock has changed? its a bit cleaner since i visited last the new bridge is accident hasard waiting to happen who is the clown who designed this? and it saddens me to see the demise of the beer engine the regulars have been pushed out by a poor manager and HIGH prices.SHAME.great to see the latics playing and doing well.goood on you lads!be back to you when ime in this neck of the woods.

To Susan Heaton----There is a photo of Jack Heaton & his wife on Albums/Sports/ Wigan rugby (9). This was taken about 1959.
They migrated to Canada a few years later. Hope this may help in some way.

I see the creator of Wallace and Grommet has recently revealed that the idea was based on the character of 1950's Wigan. Well, that gives you all something else to start swanking about! But, then again, it would be hard to find the characters of any other Lancashire town quite as laughable and the connection is clear to see when watching the films.
