i think wigan has a really good history i like visiting the leeds and liverpool canl it was the first form of transport i love it

My paternal grandfather lived at 51 Bridgewater Street, Hindley but the name is misspelt. My maternal grandmother lived at 75 Liverpool Road, Hindley grandfather predeseased her.Mrs Case, Mrs France and Elenor Brookfield's shop bring back many childhood memories of the 1940s. Any one else out there from those areas?

Born in Billinge, lived 2 years in Winstanley Road then moved to Broxton Avenue, Orrell till 1983. Grandfather had a builders in Wigan, Abletts I think, which did pub renovations.

Ex Wiganer. Still interested in what is happening over there especially the football. Come-on the Latics.

Xisela, feel free to visit Wigan whenever you like, but The Verve don't live in Wigan and they never have, so you might be a little disappointed.

Since i have started to listen to the verve, i have known i want to live in wigan all my life.i never have been there but i want to visit that beutiful town as soon as i can.thanks.

STEVE ... There was a quarry in Eccleston, the entrance was opposite the motorcycle dealership "MOONS" which was on the main road from Wigan to Leyland. It became infamous in the 1970s as the place that a New Zealanders body was found there, weighted down with weights and his hands and head cut-off. He became known as the Mr Asia Drug Boss.

Craig, how can Lowton be in Wigan, you clown ? It's miles away ! Unless, of course, there is another Lowton that I don't know about. The only one I know is on my way to Leigh from my house. Wigan is in the opposite direction, at the other side of Ince, where the sign is that says 'Wigan'.

I grew up in Poolstock in the seventies. There was two characters who everyone was frightened of, one used to tell all the kids that he'd caught a massive roach in the river douglas and the other one was known as the Poolstock tights sniffer and always wore firemans wellies. Does anyone remember these two characters ?
