Bentlegs.going towards Bryn Cross,Star Hotel,then Dr Fultons Surgery,followed by Nathan (Tanny)Wrights grocery shop.next an entry,then a row of terraced houses,the last 2 being bay windowed.Then a large opening to Dickie Thomas's Haulage firms garage.then first house in next row of terraces was Smiths shop.Opposite Wrights shop was the cobblers,cant remember the name. cheers...

Allan Hunter, You refere to Smiths Shop on Wigan Rd, Was it accross the road from Jack Warings or nearer to the Star Hotel? I just cant remember it,As to Gerald Hodgkinson, No the name dosen't ring a bell.

Great site. I use it all the time to show my friends here in NZ what Wigan is like. In July/August 2005 I went back to Wigan for the first time since 1974 (I left for NZ as a 6 year old with my family). I loved it and couldn't believe how much of Wigan I recognized. As a very proud ex-Wiganer I'm flying the flag over here in the antipodes.

Hi Bentlegs.I am in my 70s.did you go to St Peters in Downall Green Rd & then to the school in Cansfield Grove.I resided in Wigan Rd Bryn. Smiths Shop,Fairhursts Dairy then Hardmans at the end of the row.
