Hello... I went on a tour of the old schools I attended at the weekend to grab a few pictures of the haunts I attended when I was a kid just in case they knock them down.
Starting with Hindley Green County Primary School (now Hindley Green Community School) in Thomas Street in Hindley Green. I then moved onto Park High Secondary School on Park Road (now a Teacher Training place) and then onto Leigh College in Marshall Street. I found a few pictures of BIHE (Bolton Institute of Higher Education) on the internet for the old Deane Tower building which was taken down in 2003. I attended here after Leigh College in 1988.
Hindley and Abram Grammar School was established in 1632 and survived as a school (Park High Secondary School) until the 1980s when it was closed by Wigan Metropolitan Borough. The building still survives as a teachers' centre. I attended Park High Secondary School between 1980 and 1985 (under Mr. Snowden as Headmaster) when I left to goto Leigh College in Marshall Street. I suspect Leigh College will be demolished soon to make way for the new college building as well as a Sports Complex. You can currently see this being built if you drive down the Atherleigh bypass.

I am trying to contact Ron Briody from Perth in Western Australia (he has contributed to debates on this site). I met Ron and his wife at Standish before they emigrated and we exchanged data we had in relation to the Parkey family tree. I would like to contact Ron and his wife again as I have further data he may find useful. Lorraine (Alfred Parkey's grand-daughter)

My paternal grandfather, William Barlow, was born in Wigan on June 25th, 1905. To my delight, I come from a long line of Barlows that were born in & lived in your lovely Town (City?) This website has been very helpful in tracing my lineage as well as providing additional information such as pictures of the streets that my ancestors lived on. One day I hope to visit Wigan in order to identify with my ancestors of the past. Thank you for providing this wonderful website to enjoy while I search back through the years of my heritage!!!
