I recently discovered that my parents (who are both deceased) were married at St.Oswald's Catholic Church in April, 1945. Does the church still exist? Their marriage license states that the church was on Liverpool Road in the county of Lancaster. My mother was from Ashton in Makerfield.

it shows how many people like to look back.i once read an article which said that some people think it a waste of time to look back, but the author disagreed, saying that althogh it is important to look to the future, "to refuse the backward glance would be to have lived for nothing." it's obvious that a lot of Wiganers out there agree.....Wigan World is BRILLIANT!

I'd like to thank Ron Hunt for submitting the Standish Parish Register for 1875 as it contained information about my ancestors in the area and provided interesting insights into the area and its history. If there are any other magazines available I'd love to see them. Thank you again to all associated with the Wigan World site

HI
I am still looking for the Bradley family from Yates Street from the 40's'and 50's also Alan Foster who used to live at the Crown pub in Miry Lane i would just love to know how they are doing, if you are still around please just drop a line via the guestbook as i said before i am Isabel who used to come to Wigan on long visits to my Auntie Rose (Hastie) who lived in York Street. I went to school for a while at a school just off Walgate, can't remember what it was called but it was before the bridge in a street on the righthand side if you are walking towards town
They were very happy days for me and I often think of all the friends I made back then,
I also used to take out a baby from Lee street (the nex cul-de-sac down from Yates street)called Linda I think she must be in her late 50's by now I can't beleive all those year have gone by
hope the families that I have mentioned happened to read this

I was born in the Institute for the Deaf in Swinley Road and moved to Bridgeman Terrace as a baby. Mr Clough, the dentist bought our house and we moved to Higher Ince. My brother Eugene and sister Stella went to Gidlow School, I went to Hindley & Abram GS. I was Lorna Gimson then. Does anyone remember us?
