Well....

Started by: TerryW (inactive)

After our very own Tonkers post about his steak on a shovel I have decided that it will be rump steaks for tea today. Chips cooked in beef dripping and possibly baked garlic mushrooms to accompany.

We're out tonight for a meal with our middle lad's future in-laws, so probably a pasta dish and a few scoops.

'Steak on a Shovel' could be a good marketing gimmick, open a steak restaurant, and along the lines of 'Steak Diane' with the flaming Cognac thing, and flamed grill food, yoo could have an open fire, with chefs cooking steaks on it, using a shovel, and going back to that topic about tossers on here, the chefs could be using the ancient art of 'Shovel Tossing' to turn the steaks over, and roast potatoes cooked in a coal scuttle.

Folk would be daft enough to pay a fortune for food like that

"Really good steaks are in Portugal ...Sizzling Stone in Albufeira cooked at your table"

Steak on a stone!

In Wigan it would be Steak on a Shovel, cooked over an open coal fire, and it would be great if it was actually real Wigan coal being used, and say so open a small drift mine in Wigan, and market the coal has real Wigan coal, maybe using that cannel coal, which burns very well.

Folk would pay a daft price for it

I too have had ' stone steaks ' in Portugal Nana. The first time I had it I was unaware you had to cook it yourself on the hot tile. Apparently, my face was a picture :)

I bet St Pats was busy, what with the Irish Band playing later on. Yes Nana, a couple of the family had had the stone steak before and didn't tell me I was to be cooking my own. Must go back there someday,

During the war like everything else bacon was dished out in rashers , my uncle drove the pit loco at Park coliery & he cooked his alowance on the shovel that was used to fire the loco he took a slice of bread with him.
