At least it's a brownfield site, part of the old Heinz production facilities before they relocated to Kitt Green. I do feel for the businesses that were here that were CPO'd to make way for this. Some had been there quite a while and were doing well. The new estate will be off quite a busy road with HGVs servicing the retail park further down towards the old Mill ( Carringtons ) but quite close to some excellent schools, especially St Maries. I presume Bradley Hall, a Grade 2 listed building not to far away from all this is still intact, and will remain so.

Excuse me, 2 stroke, my baloney is out of the paper.

The government says Greater Manchester has to provide 210,000 newhomes by 2037 . That's 21,000 new homes in each borough. So, they'l lhave to put them somewhere!

The government have also told all local authorities that they have to utilise 'town centres', which is why Wigan town centre is being desecrated.
Also, the project contains a directive that all town centre parking has to be reduced as part of the package, but only if the area has a good public transport hub.

If you look at the past ten years development, re: railways, bus stations, bus only lanes, cycle paths etc., it all falls into place.

The big question is - "where are all the people going to come from, to live in the 210,000 new homes"? (and we all know the answer to that one, don't we, eh.?)

St.Helens Council have already started .......

"St.Helens council is to spend a £1m Government grant demolishing the 700 space Chalon Way multistorey car park as a “statement of intent” to progress the town’s future regeneration."

That car park was nearly always full.

There's no going back!

Last week, one of the Wigan market traders told me that the, Bowling Alley, Golf Range, Cinema in the proposed new town centre is baloney and will never happen, and further down the line these will be scrapped and more apartments built. Reading the above and his predictions don't seem to far fetched
