THANK YOU

To all the unknown "Wigan womblers" who are litter picking throughout the Wigan areas your work is not going unnoticed.

I don't think that you are winning yet but there has been a vast reduction in the amount of litter.

It is just a pity that Wigan Council cannot keep up with the many overflowing litter bins and the bags of litter that you have collected.

Idiots take BBQ's to parks then leave them there. They also take beer and food then leave all the empty bottles and cans and general waste for other people to pick up

LAST YEAR I WAS IN THE PARK WITH THE GRAND KIDS AND SAW A GROUP OF TEENAGERS SAT ON A BENCH EATING THEIR STABLE DIET OF McDONALDS AND COKE ONE LAD WALKED OVER TO A GROUP OF RHODODENDRONS (WHICH WERE ABOUT 20 YARDS A WAY) AND STUFFED HIS RUBBISH IN THEM. I WENT OVER TO HIM TO TOLD HIM IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS TO GET IT AND PUT IT IN THE LITTER BIN.(THE LITTER BIN WAS 10 YARDS AWAY). TO THE JEERS OF HIS MATES HE WENT AND RETRIEVED HIS RUBBISH AND PUT IT IN THE LITTER BIN

I recently watched some film of Derby Day, in 1948 or thereabouts. The tone was all very positive: stressing the return to recreational events after war time privations.

However, film continued to show the day after. The litter was unbelievable! It was far worse than the left behind stuff of todays rock concerts.

I also recall the canal at the side of the A6 in Salford in the 1960's, It was absolutely filled with garbage: must have been hundreds of tons of fly tipping.

It is not just a new/recent thing.

Ena is in those days there weren't many litter bins around like today but even them in the towns litter was at a minimum Another difference is today everything you buy is an a throw away plastic wrapping. Back in the day everything was wrapped in brown paper which would just rot away in time, or recyclable glass bottles which no one threw away as there was 3d back on the empty bottle

The bins in Alexandra Park are overflowing and the one on the car park has had the rubbish scattered all over the place.

There is one on Parsons Meadow full with 6 additional bags of rubbish around it.

I take my hat off to Mr scary the American tattooist who lives on market street in Wigan, he is up and down that street everyday with his litter picker regardless of the weather.
