I recently watched some film of Derby Day, in 1948 or thereabouts. The tone was all very positive: stressing the return to recreational events after war time privations.

However, film continued to show the day after. The litter was unbelievable! It was far worse than the left behind stuff of todays rock concerts.

I also recall the canal at the side of the A6 in Salford in the 1960's, It was absolutely filled with garbage: must have been hundreds of tons of fly tipping.

It is not just a new/recent thing.
