My grandmother, Mrs Alice English ( nee Joyce ) was born in Atherton, Wigan approx. 1910. Her father was Tom Joyce. Haven't found anything related to them as yet. A great site, though

Back in the late 1980s the was a large family of Hills. They lived in Wood Street although those houses are now demolished. If she is related to them then there is a possibility that we are distant cousins. I do not know this lady though as I was not brought up in Golborne.

Most interesting and useful. I was hopeing I might have found an old photo of Wigan North Western Station in the 1800,s when one of my Great uncles was Station Master. John Taberner. If anyone has any info. on him or his family I would love to hear from you.
