I am saddened to keep reading the hatred posted on Wigan World about Muslims and Islam. I and my family all follow Islam we consider our selves to be good British Muslims with nothing but peace and good will to our fellow people of all religions and non believers. My father worked for over seventy years in this country paid his taxes and contributed to the country we love. I myself have and still am doing the same yet we still get the hatred by the uneducated aimed at us. Why is this hatred allowed to continue on this web site, do you realise the effect it has on people like me and my family day to day. Our children and grand children fear to go out and play and are often targeted for no other reason than being brown and a Muslim. Please do something about the spread of this hate mongering. We are not terrorist ISIS killers, they do not represent our Islam we preach peace and the coming together of all religions

I finally traced my half brother and sister (after 40 years) with the help of this wonderful site, thanks to all you lovely people.
Now I'm trying to find out information about my grandmother, Lizzie Holland née Fairhurst. She was married to Thomas Holland. She lived in Norley Hall for a long while.
Can anyone help?

Looking in for some time but unable to join. I feel I must protest at the remarks about disabled carers by someone named Jarvo, his remarks are hurtful to those of us who have no choice in being a carer and his attitude to those unfortunate people are nothing less than spiteful, I suspect it is to get a reaction from others. I have read he is a UNITE representative at his place of work, are these the sort of people a Labour backing union now use to represent the workers and unemployed. He is a disgraceful human being in my eyes with no morals. The welfare of the disabled and sick should and must be the utmost by any government no matter what their policies.

Been a fan of WW for a long time. A really popular community site so I wonder if anyone can help with a question I have. Does anyone out there know of anyone by the name of HARMER. There were Harmers in Wigan well into the 1900's but then they seem to have die out, move away etc. Just wondered if there were any still in the Wigan area ? Many thanks.

Do you know that Aspull is the next area to become 'Dementia Friendly'? Unfortunately there were not many people from the local community that attended the 1st meeting to put their views across. Next meeting Friday July 3rd 12noon - 2-30pm, at Aspull Royal British Legion, Sumner Street. All welcome.
To book a place call Lorraine/Barbara on 01942 404252 or 01942 8288801 or e-mail Lorraine.Wright@wigan.gov.uk or Barbara.ashton@wigan.gov.uk
