If you go right from Landgate estate and round the island with the daft ornament on it, you see a sign that says WIGAN. Then you are in Wigan, and not before. Wigan Borough is another matter. Thats just an authority title and, call it what they will, they've put us in it whether we like it or not. Think how people in Downall Green feel, they've changed their name to 'north ashton' and put them under St.Helens. Nothing is proper anymore. Oh, and Dave Whelan isn't a Wiganer either. He's from Bradford. Apparently.

Phils battering my head with this. I live in Golborne, not Warrington or Wigan or anywhere else just Golborne. My address is Warrington too but I just put Golborne, Lancs. and it still gets here. My Mum says we are in the Parish of Winwick but who gives a toss ? Phil will be round here after giving me grief about that one ! I have to give him that though, postcode and actual o.s. location is Warrington and always has been, but if Phil wants to pay extra council tax for living in Warrington he can but not me . I'm having to go to asda now for a bottle of red to calm me down before HE gets here.

Those were the days. Good memories.

I spent a lot ofmy childhood in Golborne with part of my family who lived there,in a place I'll describe,you name it,OK/
start at Aye bridge farm,Abram,go across the footbridge over the mainline & walk towards Edge Green,what's the first street/lane you will see?
Oh & another poignant connection,I was on duty when the Golborne pit disaster happened,& as an ex-miner myself,I felt the pain.

my mistake....i pressed the wrong key? MY POSTCODE IS WA WHICH IS WARRINGTON. as i said before WA3. thats my address and thats where i live, EDGE GREEN LANE, GOLBORNE, WARRINGTON. WA3 3RP. the telephone code only covers an area and 01942 is not exclusive to wigan. anyway if st.helens or warrington or bolton or ormskirk or anywhere took over council for golborne it would still be golborne and only an idiot would consider it anywhere else.

I live in Ashton and, yes, it's near Wigan. But St.Helens is closer, easier to get to, cheaper to park, easier to get out of and you generally feel less stressed when you leave. So there you have it, it's St.Helens for me thank you, and I was born and bred in Poolstock !

(robert). having spent my 61 years in golborne i should flaming well know where i live boy ! my wife too and shes from ashton. you seem to all be blindfolded. wigan council only want the m word out of you all and they are getting it too. wigan only came into the equation in 1974 and the place you are will always be the place you are no matter who the administrators are. take belfast for instance. is it in ireland or england ? so if you live in ashton you live in ashton not wigan. you merely pay to wigan council for the upkeep of wigan. i say bring back the urban districts and punch the wigan lot out we'll all be better off and those who want to be wiganers can go and live in wigan.

I'm Wigan through and through...love the place. I live in Ashton and have never left the wigan borough in all my 21 years on this planet. There is no need...we have everything..the best pies, pubs, sports teams, women. King street rules!!! Wicked Bo'!
