Ooo don't know about that tonker, I was only about seven or eight then and he used to give me a lift home at dinner times on his crossbar from Owfen Parochial school as we lived next door to each other. That would have been approx 1957 8 ish. His old man worked at the Allenby Mill in Owfen and used to get us damaged bamboo skips at 'bommy' night.
