History of Wigan   (Help with ancient and recent history.)

Started by: retep1949 (1209)

There was Gores opposite the Bird 'th Hand on Wigan Rd in Hindley. They moved down to Atherton Rd and opened a paper shop.I do not know if they still have the shop, but it is still called Gores. They were very nice people.I still have two penknives I bought in their shop for 20p each, marked Empire made and are excellent quality.I used one in my job as an electrician for years.Only use them now to open letters.Bob their son used to deliver the papers on his bike for years ,he must have been one of the longest serving paper lads in the country.Used to love the root beer in the Temp and the Horlicks tablets which came in a little packet like Rennies.
