Times have changed, I know. But Birdnesting was once very, very, popular being a hobby that was talked about everywhere at school in the playground and at home. It's true that protecting birds is a very good measure. Yet Birdnesting for many people in Wigan is an inescapable and very magical part of childhood. I once got a Dunnocks' and said it was a Winchat. I also got a Blackys' and said it was a Ring Ousel. Birdnesting brings back so many good memories and although today it is out of the question it was a hobby loads of lads in Wigan will understand.
