Anne Sorry if this is going over odl ground, but you seem to be a bit confused as to which way round Elizabeths first name are, she was definitely born as MARY ELIZABETH the daughter of Joseph Foster and Margaret Mithcthinson,
Her marriage to Walter doesnt seem to have lasted vey long, on the 1901 Census Walter is with his mother and his son Richard , whilst Mary and daughter Jane are boarding with a family in Aspull, it is very doubtful that Jane was the daughter of Walter? she was born as Jane Elizabeth Foster in 1893 and baptised at the Parish Church , father not named?? . the son Richard as you know was killed during the war , but I believe there was a son from his marriage also called Richard born after Richards death.
Walter was also born out of marriage , as his supposedly father died in 1870 and is buried at St. Davids Aspull, Walter was born 1872? again baptism does not name a father??
Sorry cant help with the Canadian connection ,unable to find her on the passenger list for any clues it may give?
