Places   (Help with places, streets and buildings in Wigan.)

My great grandfather and his family lived there until he died in 1933. It was subsequently lived in by the family of my great grandfather's brother. No one connected to my family owned Wingates - it was rented. This is a quote from a rather distant relative who has looked into this:

"In 1948, The Earl of Crawford and Balcarres decided to sell his entire estate and all the properties were to be auctioned. Wingates was of course part of the estate."

It used to be a part of the Haigh Hall estate but I don't know that it had any purpose other than as a residential property.
