There has never been a farm where Scotsmans Flash is now. Neither has there been one where Pennington Flash is now.

Mining subsidence might have helped to hold the water, but there has always been flooding along that fault line.
In any case, mining subsidence doesn't create 15 feet of subsidence. The 'flash' is only 6 feet deep.

It's a tale, told to lads, by dads, year after year until it becomes 'true'.
