Peter-- when I was a lad nothing but fields on Leyland Green Rd and the only air raid station and siren was across from the School the one you must be thinking of was the siren for the outcropping for coal that they would sound when about to blast, a few short blasts followed by one long blast then the one to say they had finished blasting
